| Debating contentious social issues is such a troublesome business. It can get in the way of the serious work of passing laws, raising taxes and grabbing hold of the property of malefactors. Why not just short-cut debates and adopt the time-honored tactic of tossing dissenters in the dungeon? Then we can buckle down and, say, wage the war against nasty old drugs without distractions. |
