British Panel Urges Allowing Human Embryo Cloning

A high-ranking British science and ethics commission yesterday recommended that researchers there be allowed to create cloned human embryos for some research purposes, as long as the embryos are destroyed within 14 days. The Blair administration said it had accepted the controversial recommendation, along with a package of other proposals relating to human embryo research. The government said it would move quickly to write implementing legislation, which experts said would probably be the world's first to explicitly allow the cloning of human embryos.
