Canadian Government subsidizes elite golf clubs, sports groups

Since 1994, the Chretien government has given dozens of golf and country clubs -- from Newfoundland to northern British Columbia's Skeena Valley -- millions in taxpayer subsidies. It has also helped finance yacht clubs, snowmobile and ski clubs and bowling alleys, and sunk millions more into sport associations promoting ping-pong, floor hockey, water polo and fencing.
