Italian investigators swooped on Villa Nada and packed up crateloads of papers and diskettes belonging to Youssef Nada.US investigators believe that Mr Nada, a 70-year-old Egyptian with an Italian passport, may be
a key participant in the financial network of the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
Mr Nada, according to the US, set up al-Taqwa Bank, a Bahamas-registered lender operating in
Lugano, across the lake from Campione. Mr Nada, the US believes, financed deals suspected of
helping al-Qaeda move arms and other goods over the past 20 years. |
