Papua New Guinea is considering establishing a new state agency to control immigration and citizenship matters.
From Port Moresby, Sean Dorney reports the move follows a major investigation into alleged immigration scams within P-N-G's Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Task Force identified more than sixty Foreign Affairs Department officials and other individuals as having been implicated in the violation or abuse of Papua New Guinea's immigration and citizenship laws and procedures. In a statement, PNG's Prime Minister, Sir Mekere Morauta, said his Cabinet had directed the Foreign Affairs Department and law enforcement agencies to take action against those named. Sir Mekere is one of the few Members of Cabinet to know he's won a seat in the new Parliament. |
