| More often than not, when making a historical comparison, the United States gets paired with the Roman Empire. In some ways, this comparison is apt. America, like Rome, was once a republic, but has now forsaken such trappings for imperialism abroad and increasingly tyrannical rule at home. Like the Romans, the average American doesn’t appear to have any problem with this, instead enjoying the self esteem boost derived from the subjugation of other nations – essentially, "MY country can kick YOUR country’s ass." |
